Naivety brought on by blinders does not mean that happiness is not real, it simply means that happiness has less chance of being increased and less chance of being damaged. In many ways, I envy such bliss. There's something about awareness that makes us covet more than we should, even when we know it's not necessary for our survival. Memories of things we've had, which have become harder to regain, make us long for them. Can one be content with what one has, while remembering the joy brought on by these memories? Luckily, memories fade. Some may think this is some cryptic passage about emotions, but it was brought on by something as simple as the lack of wine in a recent dinner. A household staple, from another time.
I've also become aware of how people handle burdens brought on by others. Instead of plowing through and taking on more responsibility, they descend into some odd state of self-pity, doing less, achieving less, and bringing twice the burden onto those around them, in an effort to relieve themselves. Those who are aware, become accountable for those who are absent, taking on the burdens, also known as necessary work. They don't do so with any calculation, other than in maximizing their own efficiency. They may complain, as is their right, but that comes after the job is done. They are viewed as arrogant, braggarts, narcissistic, when the truth is, they're simply being what those who call them names are not.
These people, who notice all, are not simply impressed or delighted by a sunset, but taken to a place with fond memories or memories they hope to make. They can appreciate the beauty of nature and in people, and do so, without needing to possess it. There is too much around them to find boredom, as a walk, a drive, a conversation, or something as simple as a smile, transports them somewhere else, whether in reality or simply in their own mind.
These people find frustration in others' lack of observational skills, especially when it all appears so obvious. Time is wasted and time is life. Our life, and when another takes this away, it can not be given back. The extreme irony of someone taking valuable minutes to explain how much work they have or how little time they have is lost on those who are not cognizant. Those who have these abilities appear lazy, with too much time, but they simply know the secret.
The real tragedy of human nature is that the ignorant outweigh the knowledgable. Those who lack accountability create great burdens for those who do. Those who lack appreciation for the simple pleasures, make those who do have such appreciation miss what pleasures them. If one is to believe God created us and gave us free will, his omnipotence or maybe just his plan, could be questioned, for he gave those who lack self-awareness great pride in their knowledge and made those who possess it, doubt.
