Completely Random Not So Pleasant Thoughts

Can you imagine being a young impressionable black kid of about 10 years old and watching MLK and others on this day in 1963.  Can you imagine being a 60 year old black man today, seeing how little has changed?

You can not say you are 100% against the Affordable Care Act (Obamacare) and then sit there and tell me you're Pro-Life.

Minimum wage is $4 per hour less than the wage needed to be above the poverty line. That's $4 an hour. $32 a day. $160 a week. $640 a month. $8320 a year.  For many, that's what they spend on their yearly vacation.

People yell at me when I put down our judicial system. They say "Innocent until proven guilty!"  A man who was recently kicked out of a sex offender rehab program admitted to raping a teenage girl.  The judge said she "controlled the situation as much as he did" and was "old beyond her chronological age." He was sentenced to 30 days in jail.  The girl killed herself, because of the attack.  Oh yeah, the man plead guilty to the charges.

The same people who are against our possible involvement in Syria, because of a lack of substantial evidence, were the same people who wanted to invade Iraq, because of the volume of evidence.  The latter evidence was later found to be fabricated by a handful of people who never were tried as war criminals.  What if we're wrong again?

People ask me why I am so vocal and argumentative when people post false news stories on Facebook. They tell me that I need to relax and that it isn't that big a deal.  Not a big deal?  39% of Americans get their news from searching social media for stories. The most devout following of any news Channel is Fox News (25% of American who gets their news from TV watches Fox).  That is part of the reason.  Let's pretend for a second you didn't know anything about any news channel's views or biases.  Would you ever trust a news source that pays millions in fees to buy websites from companies who post their untruths?  Who pay millions in law suits, just so they don't have to publicly apologize of correct themselves? Who classify all of their shows now as "opinion pieces" and "editorials" to avoid further lawsuits?  Still wondering why I do it?

A friend of mine recently told me that Democrats killed 100 million babies since 1973.  He's maintaining that because of liberals, non-Christians and pro-choice advocates that this is the number of abortions performed in the last 40 years.  When I asked him to explain the fact that 73% of all abortions in this country are performed on Christians of those who admitted to being so (55% admitting to being practicing), he ignored me.  When I asked again, he ignored me again.  I've still yet to hear any christian or republican explain this to me.

I'll end on a high note. 100% of us will die one day and not have to worry about any of this horror anymore.

White Privilege

This was a post I wrote on Facebook after surprisingly not seeing any moaning about the Documentary by Jose Antonio Vargas, titled White People Dayyum! I just scrolled my timeline and not a single white person got their feelings hurt by White People. I unfortunately haven't seen it, but the number of fake accounts that popped up on twitter, tells me it was a damn good show. Here's the thing. If someone of color aka non-white says "White Privilege," are you offended? If you said yes, then you are exhibiting white privilege. It has nothing to do with how hard you work or study, how you stayed out of trouble, because here's the thing, that is entirely the point. Somewhere out there, there are 100 Black, Spanish, Native American, Arab, Asian, who worked and studied as hard as you and never got in trouble, but they don't have what you "earned" or achieved. Stop looking at the one person you know who isn't white that achieved as your benchmark. Loo...

Quickie Review - Finding Vivian Maier

While I thoroughly enjoyed the film, especially the first 15-20 minutes, I was a little bothered by the way the film played out. The interviews with the clearly disturbed brother, sister and the mother, who obviously, was in for a cut, didn't need to be in the film. Then the woman who suggested abuse, yet seemed to have her life defined by Maier, as she tried to muster every ounce of emotion and fake guilt. Her friend, more than happy to be party of the charade. People who talk about abuse for the first time, usually don't do so on camera. The fact these scenes were so prominent, shows that they felt wronged that they were not rewarded. Maloof on the other hand, seems to disappear from the documentary during this part, almost hiding away from the fact, he went from complete praise, to even making money off of her, to destroying her personal legacy. He almost mentions the family of boys taking care of her rent, as an afterthought. Her burial spot, never shown, yet a video of her...

If You Listen To One Speech - Lana Wachowski

http://www.rollingstone.com/movies/videos/lana-wachowski-opens-up-about-difficult-past-and-attempted-suicide-20121024 Today I saw a link to a video for a speech by Lana Wachowski.  The last name rung a bell, but I could't put my finger on it. Lana, used to be Larry, one of the writer, director, producers of the Matrix trilogy, V for Vendetta and the upcoming Cloud Atlas.  Lana is transgendered and has "come out" as a woman.  She was being honored by the Human Rights Campaign. I didn't know what to expect when this broad woman with crazy hair and a raspy voice began to speak.  She began with the usual pleasantries and told of her hair dresser. She then tells of her desire to be a quiet person and how hard the success of the Matrix movies made this.  The first ten minutes is telling of how she's not quite ready to be this spokesperson.  Then she speaks about the new movie Cloud Atlas and reveals the heart of the movie and this speech. She states,"The resp...
